PASTOR MURPHY OKECHUKWU OKPALA

JUNE 11, 1981 - JULY 31, 2024

His life scripture

(Psalm 16)

miktam[a] of David.

Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge.
I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.”
I say of the holy people who are in the land, “They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight.”
Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more. I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods or take up their names on my lips.
Lord, you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure.
The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance.
I will praise the Lord, who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me.
I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure,
10 because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful[b] one see decay.
11 You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

(Isaiah 42:1-9)

Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

Thus saith God the Lord, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:

I the Lord have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

(1 Peter 2:5-9)

you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house[a] to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
For in Scripture it says:
“See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”[b]
Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, “The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone,”[c]
and, “A stone that causes people to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.”[d] They stumble because they disobey the message—which is also what they were destined for.
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

About

A Life of Purpose, Passion, and Profound Faith: Celebrating Pastor Murphy Okpala Murphy Okpala lived with an unshakable purpose and a burning passion for God, his family, and his mission to spread the gospel. To many, he was known as Pastor Murphy, but at his core, he was a man of boundless joy and unyielding gratitude for the life he embraced so fully. Born to Late Nze Chude and Theresa Okpala, Pastor Murphy—affectionately called Okey by his family—was the fifth child, a beacon of light and joy in the Okpala household. His presence was a gift that illuminated the lives of all who knew him. Murphy’s journey was one marked by grace, relentless determination, and hard work. He was a visionary, wholly committed to God’s call on his life, and this commitment manifested in his deep-rooted love for God and people. This love blossomed into a powerful ministry that took root in Enugu, where he founded The Cornerstone Church on June 22, 2013. This ministry has since become an immense blessing to the body of Christ. Pastor Murphy’s belief in the transformative power of God’s love was evident in his dedication to community service. Through The Cornerstone Church, he initiated an annual medical outreach in 2017, providing free quality healthcare to those in need. These outreaches have since served several eastern communities across six events, impacting over 1,000 people with essential medical care. His heart for service didn’t stop there. Pastor Murphy also launched the Benevolence Outreach in 2021, which has provided over 300 families and individuals with free, high-quality food and clothing. His generosity knew no bounds, and he was steadfast in sharing God’s love with those around him. Pastor Murphy’s love for God flowed through every aspect of his life, not just in his teaching, coaching, and counselling, but also in his music. He loved music deeply, a true worshipper at heart, even writing and producing several worship songs. His talents ranged from preaching to organising community outreaches, creating music, and podcasting. In every endeavour, Murphy’s sole aim was to lift up the name of Jesus and to help set the world aright for God. Yet, the best part of him was his love for his beautiful wife, Ngozi, and their daughters. He was a loving and present father, a man who meant the world to his girls, and whose heart was wholly devoted to Ngozi, the love of his life.
